Not only a fantastic athlete competing up to Olympic level, Ferro is one of the KWPN verband's foundation stallions, having sired more than ten licensed sons, of which Rousseau, Rhodium, and Negro are the most famous.
Ferro achieved the title of "Keur" and ‘’Preferent’’ thanks to the exceptional show performances by himself and his descendants. He would produce beautiful, typey, talented offspring of the highest quality. Often with a fantastic topline, elegant look, with a strong use of hind leg ‘’carrying power’’ and a fantastic ability to collect and compete at the highest levels in dressage. For example at the 2006 National Mare Show 17 of the 33 mares were sired by Ferro or a Ferro grandson.
His oldest children already perform at Grand Prix level meanwhile, both in dressage and jumping. At the 2008 Bejing Olympics Ferro had offspring competing in both disciplines.
Only two weeks before his death Ferro rode a farewell ceremony with his licensed son Lorenzo and four offspring at the 2005 KWPN Stallion Licensing. He was praised there for still looking so fresh and energetic at age 18.
Famous quotes surrounding Ferro
"All eyes were focused on van Baalen and Olympic Ferro, the Dutch sensations at Aachen....his enormous expression in the difficult parts of the test and his excellent extended walk --rarely seen in Grand Prix horses" Joca van der Veen.
"We saw some interesting new faces (at Aachen), especially Olympic Ferro...for the future he will be a highlight on the dressage scene....He was the talking point of the show". Bernadette Faurie
